Summary of Events 2-10 March, Adelaide Festival of Arts 2002

For 3 days prior to the Festival opening , the monks have been in ceremony with the Kaurna people and other indigenous groups who are part of the Festival - the Maoris from N.Z., the Zulus from Africa, the Zuni tribe from New Mexico and other Aboriginal groups from across Australia. The similarities and links between the peoples are amazing and there has been much goodwill as each samples the other's culture. The smoke ceremonies, mandala designs and symbols all illustrate the difference and the sameness between all peoples. The culmination of these ceremonies will be the grand opening of the Festival Friday night, Feb. 1st as each group of local, national and international groups approach the city from each of the four squares / directions walking in harmony towards the centre of the circle. Once again Adelaide is achieving a first in terms of art meeting community in harmony and peace.
