3.30 - 5.30 Tibetan Culture & Customs

  • Monks Create the 3-Dimensional Mandala Mansion of Zambala, symbol of prosperity and harmony
  • Tibetan Culture Class
    • Monday : Tseta - Losar Butter Sculpture Making
    • Tuesday: Tibetan Folk Song & Dance workshop with Tenzin Choegyal
    • Wednesday: Tsampa Making and Pak Competition

6.00 - 9.00 New Year Celebrations

Throughout the three days of festivities, ongoing Tibetan customs to be experienced will include games such as the Sacred Game, Dice game, No 15 game, Mij-juk -the Human Race, Tibetan weightlifting, Coin Game and Gesar Songs.

The first day , Tibetans traditionally dress up in their finery so everyone is invited to come dressed up. ( First arrival gets extra special treatment!)

The year of the Water Sheep symbolizes Changing Fortunes - prosperity and gratitude without deceit, honest and pure good fortune.

Monday - Lama Night:

  • Welcome Ceremony with Tsampa Tossing and Barley Drink
  • Formal Losar Greeting by the Gyuto Monks
  • Messenger of Fortune Ceremony
  • Gift Exchange - it is traditional to make financial offerings to the monks at this time ( if desired ) and also for the monks to offer gifts to the people.
  • Serving of Sweet Rice and Karma Khapseys
  • Monks offer individual interpretations of fortune messages
  • The Inaugural 'Chuba Catwalk' Fashion Tibetan style
  • Have Your Photo Taken in Tibetan Dress
  • Divine Beggar Dance and Auspicious Ramblings
