Only Retreat Opportunity
on this trip.
Mount Martha House, Mornington
Peninsula , Victoria July 23 - 25
"as seen on Australian Story"
The venue for a number of wonderful retreats
in recent years, the Gyuto Monks have agreed to offer one only
weekend of intensive teachings on this tour and have chosen to
return to this much loved venue. Once again the emphasis will
be on accessible and straightforward talks addressed to the everyday
problems and life issues that we all face - depression, fear,
suffering and the dying process.
That said, the monks own good humour and
positive presence allow us to face these matters with new strength
and courage as well as a lighter touch. The program will run
from 7pm Friday evening and conclude 5pm Sunday - all refreshments
included as well as lunch on Saturday and Sunday plus a special
dinner on Saturday evening prepared by the monks themselves.

The Gyuto Monks of Tibet
Enjoying Life: The Practice of Living Well
Driven relentlessly and
instinctively by our desire to seek happiness, we engage in a
quest which can never be fulfilled given the reality of our circumstances.
Our existence is naturally opposite to the idea of a solid permanent
inherent happiness - thus revealing the core cause of our unhappiness.
The problem is simply that ultimately we can't have what we want.
There being no other way out, we have to then let go of our concept
of freedom, accept things as they are and learn to enjoy life
here and now for what it is. This in turn becomes the practice
of contentment, of living well. Buddhism encourages us to recognize
our own difficult situation and develop genuine sympathy for
ourselves and rise above our predicament through cultivating
sympathy for the plight of others. In this way we feel useful
and gain the confidence to live meaningfully.
Jampa Tashi will explain the
psychology of unhappiness which is linked at an immensely self
conscious level with our own perceptions, overriding the harsh
realities of life, death, sickness and suffering. Through meditation
and the practice of wisdom and compassion we reconstruct our
self image to enable us to view the outside world in a more positive
way.
