gyuto monks : in india

original monastery in Tenzin Gang

In India it is said that the mere sight of a Gyuto Monk is a blessing, but to hear the sound of their chanting is to be transformed.

The Gyuto Monks intially re-established their university in Bomdila, India, where they initiated hundreds of young monks from Tibetan refugee communities.

The monastery was at first located in a small Tibetan settlement called Tenzin Gang in Arunachal Pradesh, a very remote and isolated area of India squeezed between Tibet, Bhutan and Burma and totally inaccessible to visitors.

Here they taught Mathematics, Tibetan Culture and Buddhist Philosophy, in addition to the traditional religious teachings.

Although they currently live in exile in India as refugees, displaced from their own home and country, nonetheless, the monks exude a gentle happiness and live with dignity as true citizens of the world, ambassadors of a culture of compassion and kindness.
