Sounds of Global Harmony in Australia is the meaning behind the logo of Gyuto House, the base for the Gyuto Monks in Australia. The central feature of Gyuto Tantric University's own logo, the conch, is one of the eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism and means the sound of global harmony or the sound of dharma. The double triangle motif symbolises "Taking Care", an idea formulated by Maureen Fallon in the eighties when she evolved a plan to contribute to the Australian sense of national cultural identity, by adopting a philosophy of kindness and sharing, as espoused within indigenous Aboriginal culture. The hope was, that by respecting the land and those who came before, and building on our shared experiences, we could learn to live in an atmosphere of generosity of spirit, of kindness and compassion. The symbol incorporates, at once, a sense of infinity, of timelessness, and indeed of time passing - of not wasting our precious time on the planet here and now. The base of the bottom triangle symbolises the land and its custodians, the Aboriginal people, followed by the Anglo Saxons with their work ethic and sense of a fair go, then the different cycles of multicultural immigrants who brought a welcome diversity of culture and beliefs - all building on the efforts of those previous, and all belonging to the new identity which makes us all Australians. The top triangle is a psychological symbol of global consciousness, emanating downwards through national, state, civic and community awareness, to an understanding of personal inner consciousness. ~ | CLOSE WINDOW | ~ |
