In 1996, Gyuto House hosted two Gyuto Monks offered scholarships to study English, through the generosity of the University of South Australia, the first time a Gyuto Monk has ever received a scholarship in the West. Following discussions in India in 1996 about the activities of the Gyuto Monks in Australia with the Abbot and Management of Gyuto Tantric University, the decision was taken to establish Gyuto House in Adelaide, which subsequently occurred. At a meeting with the Dalai Lama, the Abbot of Gyuto and Gyuto House Australia Director, Maureen Fallon, the same year, His Holiness was advised of the work in Australia and recorded his appreciation, particularly the work with schoolchildren. |
