The Buddhist way to resolving grief BUDDHIST monks will chant and take part in a ceremony at Frankston beach as part of this year's Grief Week. Peninsula Hospice Service (PHS) has asked the Gyuto Tibetan monks to give a different perspective to grief and loss by chanting and walking to the foreshore where sprigs of wattle and other flowers will be placed on the water as a symbol of remembrance. Ms Lee Opitz. of PHS, said Buddhism was recognised as the fastest growing religion in Australia. 'Based in South Australia, the monks tour throughout Australia providing emotional support through the teachings of the Dalai Lama, meditation and interaction,' she said. 'Following the discourse the monks will offer a special chant blessing.' The monks are staying at the Merricks North property Muranna where they hold daily meditation and teachings sessions. The Grief Week service is one of several remembrance ceremonies held by PHS during the year. It also provides counselling and grief support to families and individuals of all ages. The free ceremony involving the monks will be held at Frankston Yacht Club from 9-11am on Tuesday, August 28. Bookings phone 9783 6177. Photo Caption: ~ | CLOSE WINDOW | ~ |
